SAMSUNG LCD screen ui

I developed an advanced LCD screen UI design for the Samsung refrigerator model T9000, as part of my interview presentation for the home appliances department at Samsung. This project showcased my exceptional skills in both product design and UX/UI design. Despite the limited timeframe of only three days, I efficiently followed an expedited process to ensure the project was completed on time.

I am proud to share that I successfully finished the design and delivered a captivating presentation to the Samsung team, highlighting the innovative features and user-friendly interface of the LCD screen app.

Role: Project Brief, Market research, User Persona, User Stories, Main features, prototyping, Wireframing and HI-Fidelity mock-ups.

THE PROBLEM and SOLution

During the interview, I learned that Samsung was in the early stages of targeting the US market and had limited home appliance products with a UX system. In contrast, I possessed valuable knowledge and experience in the US market.

My background in product design allowed me to effectively apply user interface graphics to enhance the overall user experience. Recognizing the potential to boost product sales in the US, I designed several impactful apps specifically for the LCD screen.

design process

To meet the deadline within three days, I quickly created a presentation file to meet the deadline.

  1. Market research: Studied existing apps for insights.
  2. Brainstorming: Collaboratively generated innovative ideas.
  3. Persona development: Created user personas to understand behavior.
  4. Concept generation: Explored various design approaches.
  5. Low-fidelity wireframing: Created basic visual structure.
  6. High-fidelity final mockup: Refined design for the presentation.

I successfully incorporated these steps into my presentation, showcasing a polished LCD screen app design for Samsung’s refrigerator.

User Stories

Anna Kimberly,  Household Mom/ 38 years old/ Married and 2 kids

She gets a headache from cooking for her family daily. With her kids’ nutritional needs and her husband’s pickiness, she relies on the “Food Planner” app. It recommends menus with detailed nutrition info, helping her create a grocery list. Saving menus allows family members to view them on their devices.

Anna organizes the refrigerator, but keeping track of food expiration dates is challenging. Using the “Food Manager” app, she monitors expiry dates and identifies items running low. It helps her plan dinner using items close to expiry, eliminating the need for extensive shopping lists.

Anna enjoys browsing food blogs for menu inspiration. However, she sometimes finds it cumbersome to read lengthy directions. With the “Food Network” app, she can easily find her favorite recipes and watch video instructions while cooking.

Jennifer Lindsey,  Working Mom/ 36 years old/ Married and 1 kid

She frequently discovers expired food in the refrigerator, struggling to maintain freshness and manage its contents. Being busy, she often forgets what’s inside. However, since acquiring the “Food Manager” app, she effortlessly organizes the refrigerator using visual graphics. It helps her track expiration dates and generate shopping lists, resulting in reduced food waste and cost savings.

Jennifer, a busy working mom, realizes she needs to buy milk for her child, but it’s challenging to fit in grocery shopping tonight. She opens the “Online Grocery” app, checks the shopping lists, and adds the necessary items for tomorrow. With a simple order, the food will be delivered tomorrow morning. This convenient solution saves her valuable time and keeps her child happy.

Returning from a business trip, she finds the refrigerator empty as her family consumed all the stored food. Exhausted, she contemplates dining out, but decides to order pizza instead. Using the “GrubHub” app, she browses the menu options for the whole family.

apps on the screen

I developed the screen UI design interfaces with these 6 apps on the screen:

  1. Menu Planner: Plan your family’s meals with ease by scheduling menus and exploring a wide range of recipe options.

  2. Food Manager: Efficiently manage your refrigerator’s contents by tracking expiration dates and reducing food waste.

  3. Online Grocery: Simplify your grocery shopping by ordering online and scheduling convenient deliveries.

  4. Yelp: Discover local restaurants and delivery services, and make well-informed dining choices with helpful reviews.

  5. GrubHub: Find nearby restaurants and easily order for delivery or pickup based on your location.

  6. Food Network: Enjoy your favorite food channels, watch cooking shows, and save recipes for future reference.

Interaction with family members

Family members can easily share information and support each other through the app. For instance, kids can send messages to mom, requesting items like milk, which she can promptly purchase or order. Additionally, she receives reminders on her phone or tablet, ensuring that important tasks are not forgotten. This seamless communication and collaboration among family members provide valuable support to both mom and dad, creating a harmonious and efficient household environment.
